Privacy policy

Effective 1 October 2026

We want your parmi opinions. We don't want much else.

The short version

What we collect

Your account. Your email address (you sign in with an emailed link or with Google, so there's no password to leak; a handful of test accounts used by app store reviewers have one), plus the username and optional display name and profile picture you pick. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address and name, and nothing else.

What you post. Reviews (the five scores, what you paid, when you went and what you wrote), the photos you attach, pubs you add to Want to Try, any report you make about someone else's review, and the list of reviewers you've blocked (only you can see it). Previous versions of an edited review are kept so moderators can see what changed.

Location, only if you allow it. When you press Near Me, your phone works out where you are and sends that position to our server with that one request, so it can work out the nearest pubs. It's used to answer that request and then discarded. It isn't saved, logged against your account, or shared.

The boring technical bits. Our hosting providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, device type and time of request) for security and to keep the service running. Like any online map, the map service sees which map tiles your device loads. We don't use advertising trackers.

Website and web app analytics. On chickenparmi.au and the web app at chickenparmi.au/app, we use Google Analytics (loaded through Google Tag Manager) to see how the site gets used: which pages people visit, which buttons and links they tap (like Open the web app, the store badges or Instagram), searches for pub names, and when someone signs up, saves a pub or posts a review. It uses a cookie to tell one visit from the next, and Google sees your IP address and browser details as part of that. We never send it your email, your name, your username, what you wrote in a review, or your location, and advertising features are switched off. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy, and you can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies. The iPhone and Android apps don't use any analytics.

What's public

Your username, display name, profile picture, reviews and review photos are public. That's the point of a review. Your Want to Try list is private unless you switch it to public. Your email is never shown to anyone.

Why we use it

Where it lives

The app's database, sign-in and photo storage are hosted by Supabase in their Sydney region (AWS ap-southeast-2). The website and web app are served by our hosting provider, which may cache public pages on servers outside Australia. Website analytics are processed by Google, which may store them outside Australia (including in the United States); we keep them for 14 months. Service providers only get what they need to do their job.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account exists. Delete a review and it's gone, along with its photos. Delete your account and your profile, reviews, photos, lists and reports are deleted with it. Backups roll over within 30 days.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Me and choose Delete my account. It's immediate and it can't be undone. If you can't get into the app, email us from the address on your account and we'll do it for you.

Your rights

You can ask to see or correct what we hold about you, or complain about how we've handled it. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Kids

The app is for people 18 and over. It's about pubs, and pubs are for grown-ups.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top tells you which version you're reading.
